Hello there!
This is your conductor, Kim, and welcome to our first season as your California Pops Orchestra. Bigger, better and more fun than ever!
Just take a look over to the right. Five great new shows for you and your whole family. I've invited some of our wonderful friends to join the Pops as guest artists this season and I'm sure they will become your friends too.
Guests this season include the most amazing 1920's and 1930's pianist Frederick Hodges. Talented, debonair, funny and an encyclopedic mastery of the repertoire will make the season opener a real toe-tapper.
For Christmas we've got the delightful singer Iari Melchor and the Bay Bells Handbells joining the Pops to help ring in the holidays!
February's almost-Valentine's show will feature a great band from Disneyland, the Side Street Strutters joining the Pops with Dixieland, jazz, big band, Mardi Gras and the usual Pops fun!
April's swing shows will feature West Coast big band, The Black Tie Jazz Orchestra, right there on stage with the Pops. This is a real first and so we've added a second show so all you hip, swingin', romantic fans can get a double-dose of Miller, Dorsey, Goodman, Ellington, Shaw and more. The best of Swing.
And to close out the season, by special request and special arrangement we're bringing you a whole show from the personal library of one of America's greatest film composers, Henry Mancini. From Breakfast at Tiffanys and Peter Gunn to Victor/Victoria and The Great Race.
I can't wait and I hope you can't either. It's great to see you again and we look forward to "making beautiful music together."
See you at the show!
Kim
Your orchestra had the great honor and pleasure to work with Broadway and film star Carol Channing for our special Fourth of July show. You can't imagine how hard it is to play trumpet or clarinet when your smiling so big!
Miss Channing delighted the audience (and us!) with boffo performances of her signature hits while dressed for the holiday in red, white and blue! Yes, your conductor was on Cloud 9 and hasn't landed yet!
Beautiful and witty. Charming and funny. A real, true star. With love and admiration we look forward to another wonderful show with Miss Channing.
